Direction

All roads and all means of transportation lead to Casey, whether by plane, truck, pickup, ATV, 4×4, motocross, etc. and even by train. The directions provided below are based on the best options and safest options. In some cases, like the train, there is only one option.

At the Casey Base Camp, we are in bush country, you are 100% responsible for your actions, be vigilant and well prepared. Also there is no phone or WIFI coverage once you leave the big towns and villages, assistance in case of emergency can take several hours or even days, please see the ‘What to Bring’ page to make sure you have everything with you and hope you never need to use them.

Night landing: It is strictly forbidden to land at Casey at night. There are no lights on the runway, we are in the middle of the forest, it is pitch dark. Don’t even try!

The Ruban River is almost parallel to the runway, so consider 04/22 to land on the river. The Ruban River is approximately 200′ wide by 2300′ long with a curve at the south end and a bridge at the north. Landing on the Ruban River is quite spectacular, but requires a lot of experience, be careful.

Runway: 04/22 (approximately) – 2300′ x 200′
Altitude: 1291′ ASL
ATTENTION: The river is located in the middle of the forest and used by boats and swimmers during the summer. There may be the presence of debris or “incursions” of the river, especially by wildlife. Throughout the year we ask you to be vigilant, but the final decision to use the river is up to you.

Road – via La Tuque

We strongly recommend that you go to Casey via the Town of LaTuque. It is a beautiful road, well groomed and safe, but remember that you are driving on forest roads and that there are instructions to follow. Forest roads are used by logging companies and belong to them so they have priority. In addition, it is highly recommended to have a CB radio on channel 10 to communicate your position, especially since the bridges are all one lane. CB Channel 10

New signs will be installed from June 2021 to guide you in the last 15-20 kilometers.
Directions from La Tuque:

  • Chemin Fitzpatrick North to Chemin Moisan
  • Chemin Moisan on the left, this is Route Forestière 25 (461)
  • Stay on Route 25 until KM 103
  • At KM 103 turn left towards Parent (you will see a lot of signs)
  • At KM 138 turn right (you will see the Camp de Base Casey sign).
  • Ride 10km and… Welcome to Base Camp Casey

We strongly recommend that you write down the directions and enter them into your GPS before you leave. You will lose all telephone/WiFi signal as soon as you embark on route 25 in LaTuque, therefore 150km with no external contact.
The road is spectacular, take your time, riding the forest roads is part of the experience!
